2,000 days to go before the European Universities Games, Granada 2030

More than 5,000 athletes from more than 40 countries will take part in these Games, representing different universities on the European continent.
On Tuesday, 21 January, Granada is 2,000 days away from the start of the EUSA Games 2030, a multi-sport event that will host more than twenty sports disciplines and in which more than 5,000 athletes from more than 40 countries are expected to participate, representing different universities on the European continent.
Last year, on 20 April, in the Portuguese city of Aveiro, the city of Granada was selected to host the University Summer Games in 2030. There were three candidates to hold 2028 and 2030, Manisa (Turkey) and Split (Croatia), the latter being the one that will host the Games in 2028.
This event was a candidacy presented in record time, which demonstrated the great inter-administrative work to bring the event to a successful conclusion. At the end of 2023, the Spanish Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes) approved the presentation of the bid, as the governmental body responsible for international competitions. Granada City Council, Granada Provincial Council and the Andalusian Regional Government, together with the University of Granada, pulled out all the stops to prepare a candidacy in which the city presented many strengths, including everything related to transport between the different sports facilities, a clear objective of sustainability, and the quality of the facilities and a Granada rich in history and a clear international reference point at university level.
For the moment, in these little more than 275 days since the attribution of the Games, Granada is already preparing itself to offer all the necessary infrastructures.
The university swimming pool is in the process of being refurbished, the facility which will host the swimming competition, and the new sand sports courts on the Fuentenueva university campus are currently being put out to tender.
These facilities will host next July part of the European Universities Beach Volleyball and Beach Handball Championships, one of the five major events that will be held in Granada in preparation for the EUSA Games 2030.
